If someone you are close to gets arrested, chances are you’re going to want to help them get out of jail as quickly as possible. At Signature Bail Bonds of Tulsa, this is our mission, too. No one should have to stay in jail a second longer than necessary. The sooner they’re able to get out, the sooner the justice process can begin. But, sometimes there is only so much individuals and organizations alike can do. Even getting someone out quickly can be a longer waiting period than most concerned friends or family members would like.

With that in mind, it’s important to know and understand the process of bail bonds, and how a bail bonds company really works with you to get your loved one out of jail.

What Happens After Getting Arrested

If someone you know gets arrested, it’s simply not feasible to consider that a bail bondsman will be ready to meet them at the jail, and get them out right away. There is a specific process that needs to occur. This includes the booking and processing of the person who was arrested. During this time, that individual will be asked a series of personal identification questions. They will also be photographed, fingerprinted, and the police will do a country-wide warrant search. This ensures that no matter the offense, the individual being booked doesn’t have any outstanding warrants out for them, that would keep them in jail for any other reasons.

This particular warrant check actually has to go all the way to Washington DC, no matter where it’s being sent from in the country, and this is the longest part of processing, taking anywhere from 4-6 hours. Once the results of the warrant check are returned to the jail, and everything comes back clear, bail can be posted.

What You Can Do

Just because the process can take longer than you might like for your loved one to get booked, etc., it doesn’t mean you’re helpless. After your friend gets arrested, you can absolutely call a bail bonds company. The process of getting paperwork done and set up can take some time as well, so by calling a Tulsa bail bondsman as soon as possible, you’re getting the ball rolling, and doing your part to get that person out of jail as quickly as possible.

Once the paperwork is completed, the bail bondsman simply has to wait for an ‘all clear’ from the jail, so he can then post bail for the arrested individual.

What to Expect After Bail is Posted

Once the bondsman posts the required bail amount, there will likely still be some waiting involved. This can be frustrating, especially when everyone is in a hurry to get that person out of jail. Unfortunately, there is no magic button or door that simply opens once the money is handed over.

Every jail has a similar process when it comes to their paperwork protocol. The booking process when the defendant came in is just part of that. Jails also have a release process, with quite a bit of additional paperwork. While this paperwork is done in house (it doesn’t need to be sent anywhere), it can still take quite some time, especially in a busy jail. With this in mind, you might have to wait another 4-6 hours after bail is posted for the defendant to be released.

However, once the person who was arrested is free, the process of working with the bondsman, and getting into the justice system begins. Consider the factors of using a bail bond, especially if you’re helping out a friend or family member. You may have to co-sign for them, which can be risky if you feel as though they can’t make payments on time. When someone we know and care about is arrested, it’s easy to let our emotions get the best of us. This can lead us to getting frustrated when it comes to getting them out quickly, or thinking we should do whatever it takes to help them out.

The most important thing you can do, as a friend or family member, is to respect the systems that are in place. This rings true for both the jailing process, and the bail bonds process. Thankfully, the more informed you are, the easier it is to stay calm, and make more reliable, responsible decisions that aren’t led by emotions. Patience is certainly a virtue when it comes to the jailing process. But, by taking the proper steps, and understanding the seriousness of signing a bail bond can provide peace of mind for you, and for the defendant. From their release, their case will be placed in the hands of the justice system, and the courts.
